Responding to Informational Texts
Bradbury contends that TV turns people into morons by bombarding us with factoids. His novel envisions a world populated with these "morons" who have been so affected by the "moronic influence of popular culture" through TV viewing that they no longer know how to think. Your job is to spend time reading and responding to the following texts, all of which focus on our current state of affairs. Read each piece with an eye to answering the question: Is Bradbury correct in his judgment about television and America?
We ask you to read each piece and write a 10 minute "free" response to it. Your reaction need not be organized into an essay form. Rather, it should be a collection of your immediate thoughts upon reading the information. Think about the content/information in the piece, but also think about the form in which it is delivered. Is it a newspaper article? Is it a blog posting? Is it a report published in an academic journal? Does the form in which it appears make it more or less credible or persuasive?
